You had to practice and most importantly perform deliberately. When we hit record we knew we had to do it the best we could, and fixing a mistake by punching in/out always left an audible click. making music now is that back then you couldn't just dick around and change it later. The gigantic difference between making music then vs. I started song writing, making/performing music in the mid 80s in punk/art-rock bands and we would record our demos and albums using either a Fostex 4-track tape machine or a Teac 4 track reel-to-reel I got cheap from some guy.
The brilliance of the OP-1 OG I finally got. I by no means am talking about how they sound or are different on the OP-1f. I cut my teeth, and worked hard on my art using what the OP-1f calls a PORTA 4-TRACK or the VINTAGE 4-TRACK. While playing with the field's different tape modes it hit me like a brick to the temple. You have to look a bit to find the best frequency to use but it works and sounds great.

Pro tip: The FM transmitter in the field lets me sit on the couch without any wired connection and broadcast low latency FM to my living room sound system via the receiver. why is this so great.Īfter many years of loving my OG I just treated myself to a field love it. I knew I liked it, but why? I can screw a track with a stupid paste error. The "game-ified" synths and FX made it a different space from the rest of the gear I own. Once I got an OP-1 (2017?) I was immediately drawn to the limitations of no projects, not much midi sequencing, everything gets printed to tape, no undo, etc.
